5’8″ Kitty Castle / Cat Tree
OVERVIEW
The Garfield Kitty Castle is made for the serious cat lover who wants a well-designed cat tree masterpiece for their cats just as much as for the beauty of their home.
It begins with a 2’x4′ base and a tower reaching up 5’8″ from the floor with 4 interior steps to allow your cats to spiral from the bottom to the top through an 8″x8″ access hole in the castle top. The top is 18″x18″ inside the 4″ rampart walls to 6″ at the high points. Attached on the left side and jutting beyond the footprint of the base is an oversized drawbridge couch with diagonal supports and a hammock underneath. To the right of the tower are a donut down low, leading to a platform at the 2′ tower window. Above that is a 2′ beam with a donut hole in the middle. Next is a three-rung rope bridge connecting the tower to the 4.5′ double post wrapped in sisal and the 5′ double carpet post; atop those are a regular couch and oversized couch. The Garfield is a near endless castle maze for your cats!
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS?
The total height is 5’8″; the base footprint is 2’x4′; the total width is 3′; and the total length is 5’6″.
HOW MANY CATS IS THE GARFIELD DESIGNED FOR?
The Garfield is designed for homes with lots of cats! There are 6 places designed for sleeping, but there are many flat surfaces that can be used for the same purpose to easily double that number.
WHAT KIND OF CONSTRUCTION DOES IT HAVE?
The Garfield, as with every kitty condo we make, is made from only sturdy wood and fasteners and covered in high quality, plush carpet and 3/8″ sisal rope sourced from Brazil and Mexico. Every post is made from single or doubled 2x4s; horizontal flat surfaces are made from 3/4″ subflooring OSB; vertical flat surfaces for tower walls are 1/2″ OSB; other landing components are 1x4s, 1x6s, and floor joists. We never use cardboard tubes of any kind because it’s weaker than solid wood and absorbs bacteria easier. The carpet and sisal rope are secured to the wood with heavy duty staples, never glue, with a pneumatic staple gun to ensure your cat will never eat any glue or pull out any staples and get hurt. We also use wood screws instead of twist on/off hardware. We do this because the kind of hardware loosens over time and has a single point of support. Our screws go straight down into the posts at the center, then at angles from the sides to bite the grain of the wood better and ensure that the mounted landing will not loosen. People often ask if it comes apart, and our response is simple: “It doesn’t come apart, but it doesn’t come apart!” That is, it will last when others fall apart.
WHAT KIND OF PLATFORMS AND SLEEPING AREAS DOES THE GARFIELD HAVE?
The 6 specific sleeping platform on the Garfield are: the 18″x18″ inside the ramparts castle top, one 12″x12″ inside the walls couches, two 15″x15″ inside the walls couches, a 12″x12″ hammock, and a 24″ long beam with sleeping spots on both sides of the donut hole. Other than that are one 12″x12″ donut with an 8″x8″ hole, a 12″x12″ platform, a three-rung rope bridge with 3.5″x12″ rungs, and four 6″x14″ interior tower steps.
WHY IS THE GARFIELD DIFFERENT?
Almost no other cat tree builder uses all wood. The posts are usually cardboard tubes lightly reinforced with wooden ends. We use wood the whole way through. Furthermore, every surface is covered with carpet or rope. If you look underneath the landings on other kitty condos, you usually see a bare surface, and that is usually cheap, crumbly particle wood covered with cheap faux fur. On the Garfield and every kitty condo we make, even the bottoms of the landings and interior walls of the tower are covered in cozy carpet. Only the base is bare except for the edges to ensure your hard surface floors don’t get scratched. On top of that, every landing that touches any other surface on the kitty condo is secured to it; so multiple anchor point produces not just a cat tree with lots of stuff, but a whole unit of strength. The Garfield is also set apart in that it’s an actual KITTY CASTLE! If your cats are of the regal sort, they need to have a proper domain.
HOW MUCH IS DELIVERY?
We typically are able to deliver the Garfield free of charge when your location coincides with our cat show schedule. When shipping on a pallet is necessary, we use Blue Lane Freight and get shipping quotes on a case by case basis. This works most places east of Denver, CO.
